Traveling with Firearms
What You Need to Know
If you plan to travel with firearms, here’s what you need to know to ensure a smooth and lawful journey:

1) Firearms Visitor's Permit
Under UK law, a Firearms Visitor’s Permit is required to possess and transport firearms during your stay. If you haven’t already applied, you can contact the NRA for assistance: NRA » Visitor Firearms Permits
2) Transporting Firearms in a Taxi
You may transport firearms in a taxi, but specific conditions must be met to comply with UK laws:
-
Carry your Firearms Visitor’s Permit.
Keep your permit with you at all times while transporting firearms.
-
Inform the taxi driver in advance.
When booking, notify the driver or taxi company that you will be carrying firearms.
-
Confirm acceptance.
Some taxi drivers or companies may refuse to transport firearms due to liability concerns. It’s essential to confirm in advance to avoid issues at the airport.
-
Secure firearm storage.
Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a sturdy hard case, with ammunition stored separately. Ensure the case is locked, and keep the key or combination with you.
3) Direct Transports Only
Firearms must be transported directly from the airport to your licensed destination (e.g., the Canadian Pavilion at Bisley Camp). No unnecessary stops are permitted during transit.
4) Recommended Transportation
We highly recommend using a licensed private hire service familiar with transporting firearms.
A reliable option is Brookwood Cars, which is frequently used by Team Canada. They offer:
-
Airport transfers
-
Large vans for group travel
-
WhatsApp communication (ideal for international travelers)

While ride-hailing services (like Uber) are widely available, we recommend avoiding them unless you’ve confirmed in advance that the driver is willing to transport firearms.
